When most people think of a pharmacy, they think of grabbing a prescription, picking it up, and moving on with their day.

But compounding pharmacies are different. And at Apothecary & Co., we take that a step further.

Let’s be honest for a moment. Most compounding pharmacies are built around one thing: the bottom line. And while it is a business, that is not how we operate.

We are built differently.

Our priority is simple: making sure you, your family, or your pet receive the best therapy possible.

What Makes Compounding Different?

Compounding allows us to customize medications specifically for you: your dose, your form, your needs.

This is especially important with bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT). No two people are the same, which means no two therapies should be exactly the same, either.

Compounding Has Evolved, and That’s a Good Thing

Long gone are the days of a pharmacy simply “whipping up” a compound behind the counter.

Today, compounding is held to strict standards. Guidelines such as USP 795 and USP 800 require dedicated lab spaces, proper handling, and trained staff.

The “90-Day Supply” Trap

Many pharmacies automatically fill prescriptions for the largest quantity possible (often 90 days) because it makes sense from a business standpoint.

But that does not always mean it is the best approach for the patient.

A Real Story We See More Often Than You’d Think

We recently worked with a patient who had been prescribed bioidentical hormones. Her medications were filled for 90 days without discussion.

Initially, she felt great. But over time, her symptoms returned. After another 90-day refill, the same pattern occurred.

When she came to us, we explained that her medication may have been losing effectiveness over time.

Why Starting Smaller Can Be Smarter

We recommend starting with a 30-day supply. This allows adjustment, feedback, and avoids waste.

Stability Matters, Too

Some compounded creams can lose potency after 45–60 days.

What Changed

She switched to us, moved to 30-day fills, and her therapy became more consistent and effective.

Our Approach: Education First

We focus on educating, guiding, and personalizing each therapy.

The Bottom Line

Compounding should be thoughtful, intentional, and tailored to you.
